29th May Dosedel sends Greg out in Round One

As expected by many, Greg lost to Slava Dosedel in the first round of the French Open. Greg lost in three close sets : 3-6  6-7 (10) 6-7 (4). Greg next plays at Queens Club - starting on June 12.

28th May Greg returns for last Clay Court Battle

The setting is Roland Garros and as the wekend drifts away Greg prepares for his last Clay Court tournament of the year. In Round One he takes on Slava Dosedel - a tough competitor on this surface. Greg has taken a two weeks off in preparation for the Second Grand Slam of the year. Despite not being seeded (missing out by one spot) Greg is still confident of enjoying his time in the French capital. Expect his first round match on Monday or Tuesday.

10th May More Clay Court misery

Greg got thumped 6-3 6-1 by Fernando Vicente in the Frist Round at Rome yesterday.

28th April Greg suffers first Haas Defeat

Before today Greg's record against German Tommy Haas was 4-0 - but on Clay you didn't fancy his chances of improving that record - and he didn't! A nerve wracking first set saw Haas take a tiebreak 8-6. Greg lost the second set 6-3 to bow out in the Third Round of the Barcelona event.

26th April Greg beats Alami, Haas next up...

Greg won his first Clay Court battle of the year 6-3 3-6 6-2, against talented Moroccan Karim Alami. No match on clay is ever easy for Greg but he battled well in this tie to earn a third round clash with Germanys Tommy Haas.

Don't forget that ticket sales start on Friday for Britain's Davis Cup tie with Ecuador, which injury permitting Greg will play in. See my British Tennis site for ticket details.

17th April Greg out of Monte Carlo

You could be forgiven for not having noticed that the tennis had started yet in Monte Carlo. But already Greg is out. He was beaten in three sets by Czech Republic Davis Cup player Slava Dosedel 6-4 6-7 6-1. Greg rallied in the second set but got slaughtered in the decider, with his good clay form of last year nowhere to be seen.

12th April Greg opts into Davis Cup and Stella Artois

Greg has confirmed his Davis Cup future by opting into Britains forthcoming July tie with Ecuador on home soil .... for more details of Britains Davis Cup challenge see my Essential Guide to Britsih Tennis .

He has also confirmed his entry in the Wimbledon warm-up tournament at Queens Club.

2nd April Key Biscayne Round Up

Despite beating Andrei Medvedev and Byron Black, Greg (playing some good tennis) couldn't cause Pete Sampras any trouble in the round of 16. This was despite Sampras having struggled to find any form in the previous round of what is nicknamed the "fifth grand slam". Pete though found an extra gear when he faced an opponent who has beaten him before.

I have now updated the Results, Schedule and Draw pages.

13th March Greg loses to Mirnyi

Unfortunately Greg crashed out of this Masters event in the Second Round to 22 year old Max Mirnyi. He went out 6-4 6-4, and will next play in Key Biscayne. Sorry no updates of this on this website - I'm in San Francisco for the week..(unfortunately not Key Biscayne...!)

13th March Greg beats youngster in Indian Wells

Greg crushed American wild card James Blake in the first round at Indian Wells. The youngster started well, and the match levelled at 2-2, but Greg took the next 10 games to progress to a round two clash with Max Mirnyi or Taylor Dent.

8th March Greg put out in cold by Sampras

Pete Sampras ensured that Greg's stay in Scottsdale was a short and unhappy one. After two days of constant rain, Greg just lasted 61 minutes against the game's best - in freezing desert conditions. Greg next plays in Indian Wells after the 6-3 6-4 defeat.

26th February Greg thumped by Hot Kafelnikov

"My best match of the year" was how Yevgeny summed it up afterwards. And you have to believe him. Surely never before has Greg's serve been returned for so many winners as in the first set of this match. Greg eventually lost this match 6-3 7-6, but the tone was really set in the first 8 games, as the Russian played perfect tennis to stun the large crowd (myself included!).

The arena was buzzing before the match with the organisors making extra seats available for those who bought last minute tickets, but this was soon dampened by the in-form player. In the second set Greg regained some composure and hung grimly onto his serve. But Yevgeny's class shone through in the tiebreak. Greg and the crowd went home disappointed, but the match was never really going to be affected by how Greg played (and he did actually play well)....

25th February Greg in Kafelnikov Saturday Showdown

Greg will be gunning for his first final berth of the year when he takes to the controversial court at the London Arena tomorrow. On the opposite side of the net will be the form player of the year, Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Kafelnikov, whose head to head record with Rusedski stands at 4-4 has been critical of just about everything at the tournament this week. His first moan was the court surface which got replaced, his second was his hotel room (that got switched) and thirdly was his doubles partner, Henman, who refused to play with him in the Grand Slam events. Apart from that it has been a good week for the Russian, today defeating Santoro comfortably.

Greg achieved his place in the semi's by beating Henman's conquerer Argentinian, Mariano Zabaleta, in two comfortable sets. As on Wednesday Greg rarely looked threatened despite the close scoreline 6-4 7-5.

24th February Greg in Friday's Quarter Finals

On a day where not much went right for the British players Greg edged through in a tense second round match, beating France's Jerome Golmard in two tiebreak sets. In front of a medium sized partisan crowd the Brit., still returning from injury, played his worst game in the first of the match. It took him until the 10th game of the set, when Golmard hit two double faults whilst serving for the match, to break back. When he did the crowd certainly made their presence felt.

After that Greg always looked in control, and moves into Friday's Quarter Final showdown - but not to play Tim Henman, as he took another first round tumble in this tournament.

23rd February Greg plays Golmard late tonight...

Greg plays Jerome Golmard in Round two late tonight. My update will unfortunately for you - be late. This is because I will be in the crowd all day and night. (I'm not gloating but what a fantastic day to buy tickets for with Tim, Greg, Jamie Delgado and Neil Broad all playing. Must remember to take that Union Jack...!)

21st February Greg in Docklands victory over Arnaud

Greg had no trouble dispatching Arnaud Clement in Round 1 iof the AXA Cup, at the Docklands Arena. The only letdown was the number of empty seats on this first day - despite the event's popularity as the week progresses. See the draw (follow link in menu bar) for details of Greg's next round opponent. Today's final score was 6-3 6-4.

19th February Greg coming home

Greg lost to Kafelnikov last night in a close match. Despite taking the first set 7-3 in the tirbreak, he lost out in the next two 6-4 6-4. Considering Greg's lack of match play and Yevgeny's good form in 2000 thus far - this result was neither surprising nor upsetting. Greg will play in London's Docklands Arena next week, with a partisan home crowd expected to support him.

17th February Greg joins Tim in Quarter Final

One British star joined the other in his 2nd Round match today when Greg Rusedski beat Filip de Wulf of Belgium in straight stes (7-6 6-4). The result means that Greg will play Kafelnikov in the Quarter Finals, who was an easy winner over Escude. This result also means that Greg has firmly started his race for the year end champion's slot, after being sidelined through injury for the first 6 weeks of the new millennium.

16th February Greg beats Kucera / DeWulf next

Greg beat Karol Kucera in his return to action on Tuesday. He came through a 6-2 7-5 winner in 88 minutes, despite going 4-1 down in the second set. Greg was relatively happy with his performance, that showed his trademark power play. He next plays (on Thursday) Filip de Wulf who beat Goran Ivanisevic. See DRAW page for full details.

14th February Rotterdam Return versus Kucera

Greg plays Karol Kucera in his first match back from a tough ankle injury. Greg is ranked sevn (due to his ranking in the entry list) due to the injury he is yet to get off the mark in the year 200 race for a champion.

Greg also plays next week in his home town of London. Tickets are still available through TicketMaster for this event at the London Docklands Arena.
