12th July Greg and Sven split

As a direct consequence of his recent slump in form Greg has split with coach Sven Groeneveld. Greg insists the two will remain friends and that the split is amicable, with both parties feeling a change of scene is best. Whether or not Greg knows who his next coach/advisor will be, he has yet to annouce it. This website reckons there is a fair chance David Lloyd will feature somehow ... after being seen in the Rusedski camp at SW19.

Rusedski.co.uk would like to extend their warm wishes to Sven , a very warm and friendly guy who has taken Greg a long way.

Other titbits of Greg news:

  • Despite everyone bemoaning his form, Greg has actually only slumped to 26 in the Entry rankings. It is the 2000 ranking position that has suffered.

  • Greg started practice for the Davis Cup with the rest of the squad on Monday, ready for the real action on Friday. Follow all the news of Greg and the boys not on this site, but on www.british-tennis.freeserve.co.uk . (Updating two sites is too much, especially when watching all that tennis. If you're going to the tennis at all, come and say "Hello" - I'm sitting in Block 28 armed with Drum and Airhorn!)

26th June Greg's Rollercoaster Eventually Crashes

It took all afternoon and evening (including rain break) but a disastrous performance by Greg ended in defeat. For four sets he looked little better than your average club player. Somehow though he managed to take two of those on tiebreaks - to take the match in to one of those legendary final set affairs, magical in the Wimbledon twilight.

His performace though will surely go down as the closest a player has come to winning after playing so badly. Anyone at work for the afternoon will have missed the horror show of the first two sets. There stills seems uncertainty as to whether it was nerves that shook him or some other factor yet to be revealed....

David Lloyd watching alongside Sven in the players box must have wondered if his new found allegience was actually to the same British player as he managed as Davis Cup captain less than 6 months - for sure, Greg was unrecognisable.

Anyway to cut an incredibly long story short, despite serving at 7-6 in the final set it was lost 9-7 and Spadea claimed his first win in 22 matches. Wimbledon though is most definitely up and running in 2000.

20th June Greg as the 14th Seed takes on Spadea

Wimbledon starts Monday and Greg will play Vince Spadea in Round One. He is seeded 14th and has what is widely considered to be a fortunate draw. Make your own mind up. Click on DRAW above.

15th June Greg throws it all away

In another close match Greg can only blame himself for not having a shot at a Quarter Final tie. Admittedly the match was close throughout with Greg taking the first set on a tiebreak before Safin claimed the second in similar style. It was serving at 3-3 in the decider though that the defining moment came. Greg was 40-0 on his serve - yet contrived to lose the game, aided by two double faults. Despite nearly recovering to break back immediately Greg lost the set 6-4. When all was said and done his ace count was lower than his double fault count - yet another bad day at the office for the British No. 2.

The next event is a Wimbledon Seeding announcement on Monday, followed by the draw on Tuesday.

14th June Greg forces through to Round Three

In a very close affair, under overcast skies, Greg battled through to a thrid round encounter with Marat Safin. He beat German Jens Knippschild (England 1, Germany 0!) in two straight, yet tiebreak, sets. Greg never quite seemed to push his serve into fifth gear against the German, who is struggling for form this year. Hopefully he can find a little bit extra in his game for he is sure to need it for the tough clash tomorrow.

12th June Greg off to a terrific start

As the majority of the nation had hoped (well in between Euro 2000 mania) - Greg got off to a flying start at Queen's Club. Taking to the court immediately after a fantastic triumph by Brit Arvind Parmar (over past winner Scott Draper) Greg defeated experienced Wayne Ferreira in straight sets. Both were undeniably tight - but Greg came through 7-5 6-4.

He next plays on Wednesday (glorious weather dependant) against Alex Witt or Jens Knippschild.
